Composed essentially of black, grey-green, grey-violet and violet-black biotite-muscovite andesite, pyroxene-andesite, rhyolitic andesite, pyroxene-andesitic basalts and basalts, intercalated locally with thin layers of tuffs. It is 283.2 m thick at the type section and 206~306 m in the region.

Lithology Pattern:
Lava

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in a conformable contact with the underlying Baiyingaolao Fm volcanics

Upper contact

No top found.

Regional extent

It is distributed in the Erenhot – Bugt area and the Da Hinggan Mountain, essentially in the Sha’ermaori area in the northwestern part of the Zalute Banner north of the Xilamulun River, in the northwestern part of the Julihei area, in the Fuxingtun Village of the Right-wing Front Banner of Korxin region, Shabuleng Mts and the region north of the Hanshan−Mt Forestry Farm, all with the intermediate-basic volcanic lavas being the predominant rock types.

Age

The Rb-Sr whole-rock isochron age for the formation is of 146±32 Ma (Zhao Guolong and others, 1989). Put here as Tithonian, following Jurassic schematic strat column in the older Chinese-language lexicon. However, entry in Cretaceous lexicon (Wan Xiaoqiao et al.) suggested an Early Cretaceous age, but not details were given
